Environmental/Chemical Analyst


Micronic Technologies is seeking a full time Environmental/Chemical Analyst to support the company’s projects and grants.  In coordination with the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Micronic is currently executing several grants and projects to further develop and deploy its unique mechanical evaporation system. The Environmental/Chemical analyst would be responsible for several support functions including but not limited to: permitting and regulations, informing standards development, water sampling and analysis, and laboratory management.



Job Functions


Environmental Analyst


  • Coordinate solid and liquid waste disposal including hazardous materials.

  • Assuring projects adhere to state and federal environmental regulations.

  • Obtain and maintain any relevant local, state, and federal permits.

  • Collect field water samples adhering to Standard Operating Procedures, chain of custody, and best practices.

  • Evaluate potential field pilot sites for remediation.

  • Provide company environmental guidelines and technical assistance, as required.

  • Understand and utilize pertinent aspects of chemistry, biological sciences, and public health issues that pertain to the control or elimination of pollutants.


Chemical Analyst


  • Supervise laboratory operations including water quality testing and other testing functions, ensuring proper care and maintenance of samples and their laboratory facilities.

  • Oversee procurement of materials and supplies, preventive maintenance of facility equipment, and maintaining inventory levels.

  • Operates, adjusts, and maintains scientific instruments.

  • Develop standard operating procedures and operate laboratory in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Supervise, support, and mentor students and support staff to meet performance requirements, schedules, and/or resolve conflicts.

  • Resolves problems by examining and evaluating data; selecting corrective steps.

  • Completes projects by assisting company project team; attending and participating in group and project meetings.

  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.

  • Enhances laboratory and organization reputation by accepting responsibility for accomplishing new and vary requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

  • Performs biological, chemical, or physical analysis and determinations at the direction of academic and company professional staff.

  • Prepares chemical reagents and biological media according to formulae; assumes responsibility for accuracy in the preparation and standardization of solutions.

  • Maintains technical records and prepares reports.

  • Assures work quality by requiring strict adherence to established methods and procedures.



Required Education

B.S. degree in chemistry, natural sciences, or environmental science/engineering


Preferred Experience

  • One to three years of experience in the environmental field

  • Experience with water/wastewater regulations, characterization, or analysis

  • Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in written or electronic form.
